有人靠禁慾養生，也有人為亡妻守貞，因此過著無性生活，不過醫師提醒，小弟弟太久沒用，可是會變短、變小喔！近來有研究顯示，如果男性平日勃起次數太少，半年後陰莖就會因海綿體纖維化、平滑肌流失而縮水。

亞太性學會主席、泌尿科教授江漢聲昨在「性功能障礙中西醫診治學術研討會」中指出，每隔一段時間，就會聽到5、60歲的中、老年病患在診間抱怨，自己陰莖怎麼好像變小了，他推測除老年退化外，也與平日太少使用有關。

曾有位60幾歲的男性對他說，太太過世後，他就一直沒有性生活，至今已5年之久，最近好不容易找到新伴侶，卻發現自己勃起比較難，而且感覺上陰莖好像也變小、變短了。

江漢聲昨日提出「陰莖復健」的觀念，他舉攝護腺癌病患為例，在腫瘤開刀切除術後，病患常因局部神經受損，導致勃起困難，最近有研究報告指出，如果術後半年後才開始幫陰莖做復健，病患的陰莖出現海綿體纖維化、平滑肌萎縮的情況，會比術後兩個月就開始者嚴重許多。

他表示，陰莖海綿體纖維化與平滑肌退化，不但會使陰莖外觀變短、變細，同時也會影響勃起功能，變成惡性循環。目前建議攝護腺癌病患開刀後，立即接受壯陽針與小劑量口服壯陽藥治療，好讓勃起神經受損的陰莖，能獲得定期充血，達到重建性功能的效果。一般人雖然不必做到如此，但不妨定期刺激陰莖、使其勃起充氧，最重要的是，保有對性的想像與喜愛，對身心健康都有幫助。

簡單來說，適度的勃起就有如讓陰莖做有氧運動，夜間勃起也是一種復健運動，如果次數減少，甚至夜間不再勃起，也要多注意，必要時應該就醫檢查。
