去年國人十大死因中，「自殺」回升到第九位，且多半要肩付家庭經濟重擔的男性自殺死亡人數高達女性的二二倍，是否與席捲全球的金融海嘯有關？長庚醫院自殺防治中心研究員張家銘說，自殺率與失業率確有正相關。但整體來說，自殺是多因性，歸於單一原因可能失之偏頗，久病厭世、憂鬱症等，都值得重視。


雖然男性自殺死亡率高於女性，但比較全台生命線「１９９５」去年接獲的電話顯示，男女求助比例卻是四比六。生命線表示，男性多半受傳統觀念影響，不習慣對人吐露心情，即便打了生命線，也往往吞吞吐吐，感到很不好意思。


「許多男性同胞太ㄍㄧㄥ了！」國際生命線台灣總會副秘書長江景星認為，受傳統觀念與文化背景使然，男性被教育不要在他人面前示弱，開口求助成了難以啟齒的事。


生命線社工陳秀霞說，許多男性民眾鼓起勇氣撥生命線，不是支吾其詞，就是拐彎抹角的詢問，很少有人直接透露煩惱。還有不少男性求助者說完後，拼命向電話那頭的值線人員道謝，覺得麻煩別人很不好意思。


陳秀霞說，女性則較習慣向別人傾吐心事，這個朋友找過了，再找下個朋友吐苦水。「講多了也好，壓力逐漸釋放，可以避免自己鑽牛角尖」。


衛生署統計，去年自殺率上升三個百分點，是否與金融海嘯有關？陳秀霞表示，自殺的因素多元，不宜與失業直接畫等號。但她坦言，不景氣導致個人經濟困窘、家庭失和等困擾，確實反映在生命線求助電話上，「近來談失業煩惱的民眾變多了。」


陳秀霞表示，企圖自殺的民眾若還願意打生命線求助，其實心中都存有求生意志。只要撥通了，能夠說出煩惱，接受別人鼓勵，當下心情都會從谷底爬上來，找到人生的一絲希望。
