〔編譯羅彥傑／綜合十二日外電報導〕車主可能再也不必擔心愛車的烤漆被刮傷了！美國科學家宣稱研發出一種能「自我修復」的聚胺酯薄膜，只要曝曬在陽光下，就能修補汽車烤漆上的刮傷與污損，而且陽光越強，修復速度越快。


哈提斯堡南密西西比大學研究人員厄爾班說：「我們研發出一種聚合材料，能夠藉由暴露在太陽下自行修復刮痕。」他的研究十三日刊登在「科學」期刊上。


這種新薄膜本身是一種聚胺酯，它包含在蝦蟹外殼就能發現的幾丁聚醣（甲殼素），及排列成環狀、稱為oxetane的有機化合物。科學家的作法是將幾丁聚醣加入傳統聚合材料內，譬如汽車烤漆保護膜。


當刮痕損壞化學結構時，在紫外線照射下，幾丁聚醣就會產生化學連鎖反應，先是與oxetane互相結合，最後撫平刮痕。整個過程不到一小時，甚至十五到三十分鐘就能搞定。


厄爾班說，這種新薄膜可使用在各種現成材料上，任何容易遭刮傷的物體都能使用，包括光碟片、太陽眼鏡、iPod螢幕、手提包包、鞋子，甚至家具、醫療器材，而且比其他自我修復薄膜更好，因為後者往往較費工夫，而且不便宜。雖然新薄膜仍處於實驗階段，但五年內就能用在商業產品上。


不過他坦承，這種聚合物只能在同一處刮痕修補一次，若是重複刮傷，就起不了作用。他說，這很明顯是它的缺憾之一，但同一處地方被刮傷兩次的機率很低。另外，修復刮痕的速度須視日光強度而定，像是在日照強烈的地中海，刮痕消失速度就比英國快三到四倍，但氣候的潮濕與否並不會影響修復速度。
