二十世紀台灣症候群
宇宙之內的大自然現象與變化，人類原本能理解的不多，人力所能掌握的更少。人對無知與無力的境界，都有原始存在一種無知的恐懼，恐懼會轉為敬畏，敬畏會衍生出乞求與依賴，這是人類會祭拜神明與信仰宗教的由來。正常情況之下這是有正面的意義。但有時人類對惡霸也有這種心理效應，由恐懼轉為敬畏 尤其當被虐待者長期生命受到威脅，一切生活所需完全由施虐者掌控，正確資訊的隔絕(所有資訊僅由施虐者提供)，被虐待者行為符合施虐者意願時，又有小惠可得，若自信心不夠堅強，時間久了，就可能會由敬畏轉為崇拜。所以偶爾會有受虐者對施暴者產生神明式的崇拜現象。
輕度的這種心理扭曲現象，常會發生而少被注意。如神棍與幫派頭子的作威作福。而嚴重的這種典型心理扭曲，則較少出現，偶發時則會引起震驚。但真正經過分析確認，而舉世聞名的，則始自1973年的斯德哥爾摩症候群。當年在瑞典首都斯德哥爾摩，有一群持槍搶匪侵入一家大銀行搶劫，與警方對峙數日，期間搶匪對人質數度凌虐。但搶匪歸罪警方包圍，告訴人質，人質之所以在此受苦，是因為警方包圍所致，否則他們已逃走，大家都可得安樂，何須在此受苦。結果危機解除，受盡凌虐的人質們竟未因得救而高興，反過來同情凌虐他們的搶匪，自以為大義凜然地為搶匪辯護，且出錢出力，要救搶匪，精神科醫師才驚覺出這種心理扭曲的現象，遂將這種扭曲的心理與精神病態，首次命名為斯德哥爾摩症候群。隨後，世界上亦發生過多次這種典型心理症候群。較有名的是美國駐中東大使的女兒被恐怖份子綁架案。該被折磨得奄奄一息的大使女兒，被救回美國。她康復後，竟偷偷出國，投向該恐怖集團頭子。1974年報業大亨威廉．赫斯特的孫女派蒂被左派游擊隊從家中綁走，被凌虐數月，後來竟加入該游擊隊，並參與持槍搶劫。這種精神與心理的變態，在世界上都是偶發的獨立個案。
可憐在台灣，卻是全面性的精神和心理扭曲。例如，那些常說「尊崇現有國旗、國歌超過自己生命」的人，在懷有敵意的外國人來到台灣時，竟然強制禁止使用，並暴力取締國旗、國歌。那些平常否認現有國旗、國歌的人，卻指責他們作賤國旗、國歌。而其餘更多的人則漠視這種現象。又如,多數的台灣人民全無自覺地跟著別人稱其他少數族群為原住民。 又如，現在台灣人民之中，有多少人知道有很科學化的台灣數字呢? 有多少人知道計算機發明前的通用算盤是史上和台灣數字同時發明的台灣算籌呢? 又有多少人知道在四千多年前，台灣就有可能是世界上最早的煉鐵工業呢? 這些在正常的國家和人民是不可能發生的事情。台灣人民今日精神和心理的扭曲現象，雖然有一些少數源頭可追溯至三、四百年前，但主要是在二十世紀內形成，尤其固化，所以稱之為「二十世紀台灣症候群」。
