醫師改當研究員…「好的學術環境勝高薪」

中研院史語所近年雖被挖角不少，優良學術氛圍仍吸引許多傑出人才放棄高薪前來。原本是牙醫的副研究員李尚仁、明年初將到任的耕莘醫院精神科醫師巫毓荃，都是其中佼佼者。
今年四十八歲的李尚仁，就讀台大牙醫系時活躍於視聽社，並加入精神醫師王浩威的讀書會，頻在文星、當代、電影欣賞等雜誌發表論述，在知識青年圈早有名氣。

大學畢業後當了一年牙醫，李尚仁「不想下輩子都在看牙齒」，由於喜愛的哲學家傅柯也關注醫學領域，決定赴英念醫學史，一路拿到倫敦大學醫學史博士；首次聽說史語所，他本以為都是老先生研究古史，進所後才知所內也積極開拓醫學史等新領域，天寬地闊。

「這裡不講師門派系，沒有複雜人際關係，學術討論開放；傅斯年圖書館更是世界級圖書館。」李尚仁說，學術研究者最在意的是學術環境，並非只看薪水；他認識的牛津、劍橋大學教授，薪水雖不高，卻都因喜愛學院環境、豐富藏書而久留校園。

不少重量級研究員被挖角，史語所學術地位似受影響，但李尚仁說，台灣仍保有相當優勢，以研究中國史來說，大陸雖有錢、有資源，但台灣社會開放，能深入探討在大陸政治環境下較敏感的學術議題，「這是我們的優勢所在。」

即使預算法有修正，
難保其他以A報B的行為不會出事，
公務員畢竟比私人企業吃虧。
