繼網友發現統一「瑞穗鮮乳蛋捲冰淇淋」在常溫下幾乎不太融化，及6月28日的「冰淇淋6小時不融化」縮時攝影影片曝光後，網友吳逸文也在2日晚間11點整做了一支「統一長明燈」，實驗現場LIVE網路直播，吸引許多網友爭相點閱及轉發；跟一般融成一攤液狀的冰品相比，截至3日晚間8點，超過20小時，影片中的冰淇淋的形狀還在，有網友諷刺地說：「地震急救包一定要放一支！」

網友吳逸文2日晚間在臉書寫道，自己做了一盞燈，「看看能放多久吧？誰能幫我命名？跑一趟光華1小時組裝完成，特別感謝蔡易成機構師的協助！」在網友一陣激烈討論之後，2日11點晚間開始直播「統一長明燈」影片，連知名3C達人吉米丘也來幫忙轉貼及提出意見。

有網友截了一張瑞穗冰淇淋放置4小時（3日凌晨3點2分）的截圖照，沒想到冰淇淋形狀竟然與放21小時（3日晚間8點5分）的截圖照無異，彷彿只有時間快轉，冰淇淋卻沒什麼變化。網友雖然都知道這隻冰的「威力」，但看了直播影片仍驚呼連連，也有些網友搞笑地在影片裡觀察，例如3日傍晚影片裡出現一隻烏龜時，大家在影片的即時留言版拼命討論影片中的烏龜；在網友們熱烈的參與之下，影片不到一天已超過10萬人次點閱，且持續飆升中。

許多網友留言表示支持，有人說，「什麼事情會讓己經5萬人在線上同時觀看呢？只有統一冰淇淋光明燈……。」、「統一這技術，可以拿去南北極試試看，說不定可以拯救北極熊……。」也有網友對見證鬼島的奇蹟感到有趣。

3日晚間11點，網站還點起蠟燭放生日快樂歌，慶祝統一長明燈已24小時，影片中只見放了24小時的冰淇淋，到了一定形狀後，就似乎被定型了，許多網友認為冰淇淋實在太強大了，都不會爛。網友說，「突然覺得在我有生之年看不到它爛掉。」也有人說，「希望瑞穗鮮乳本身沒問題。」

據了解，使用化工添加物乳化劑和黏稠劑，能讓冰淇淋不容易融化，介面活性劑能讓原本油水不融合的分子緊扣在一起，比起天然食材的冰，需要更多熱量來融化。因此有醫師說，乳化劑和黏稠劑吃多了，反而會讓你覺得口乾舌燥，長期累積下來，更會影響肝腎功能代謝。

其實統一的「瑞穗鮮乳蛋捲冰淇淋」，先前也因爆發的工業防腐劑事件而下架，當時原料供應商立光農工，把工業級防腐劑「乙烯二胺四醋酸二鈉」(EDTA-2Na)配成食品原料，再賣給統一、愛之味等食品大廠。而且這工業用的乙烯二胺四醋酸二鈉，價格比食用級的便宜6成，根據檢警查扣的帳冊，統一購買毒原料的時間恐怕長達6年。
