我藥學系畢業竟被派去當陸戰隊營部醫官. 好在其前在左營受訓一個月時認識不少各校醫科畢業生, 他們有些被派到林園的陸戰隊師部衛生連, 我每次後送病患去時順便請益, 自己也買書進修. 我們預官進部隊, 多少會受到嫉妒和排斥, 他們認為我們只是"來渡假的", 不久就要拍拍屁股走人, 心理偏激者會"趁機整人", 這有賴各自去化解, 也多少和運氣有關, 遇上惡人就會很辛苦. 我儘量謙和, 交辦事儘快盡力做好. 剛進部隊就被嫌"不會寫公文", 天啊! 之前我從未寫過公文, 當然不會寫. 不過我一天就解決掉, 我把前醫官(是劉上尉, 所以我是少尉佔上尉缺)留下來的公文拿來讀讀, 明白其格式, 就會寫了. 令我煩惱的是營部傳令兵, 他和營部輔導長很要好, 狐假虎威. 我當時不是醫科畢業, 很小心, 很怕延誤病情害了病患, 一不對勁就後送病患. 這需要傳令兵去團部(就在附近)簽發派車單. 這僅需10分鐘就能完成, 他卻時常拖延. 有一次竟然拖延了一個小時, 我認為已經無法容忍, 向營長報告並分析其利害關係(萬一延誤後送而鬧人命, 不只我有事, 營長也會受到連坐, 而且傳令兵拿輔導長來狐假虎威, 破壞軍紀, 出了亂子, 營長也難逃連坐), 營長也認為事態嚴重, 叫傳令兵來問話, 被支吾其詞, 營長生氣, 罰傳令兵爬行營部一週, 並聲明: 若下次再犯, 就抓去關禁閉. 這時營輔導長出面說情, 營長說: 如果出事, 你要負責嗎? 營輔導長縮回去, 於是傳令兵只好爬行營部一週, 不敢再狐假虎威. 不過我提防他挾怨報復, 睡覺時刺刀都放枕頭底下(雖有配備手槍, 但無子彈, 因為軍中管制子彈).
