英國《太陽報》報導，醫護人員在艾拉出生後，緊急進行25分的急救後，終於讓她恢復心跳。但由於腦部缺氧時間過久，醫師憂心她腦部可能受損，甚至細胞壞死，就將她轉送劍橋「亞當布魯克斯醫院」，以「冷藏療法」醫治。


艾拉被包在充滿冷水的毯子內，體溫下降到33.5度，以減緩腦部新陳代謝，增加腦細胞自行修復的時間，並在72小時內，漸漸將體溫回升到正常溫度，完成一系列療程後還需留院觀察11天。


艾拉的父親傑森不捨地說，當我們去醫院看她時，她全身上下都插滿機器跟管子，可想而知她的痛苦，且當時「她的額頭是冷冰冰的」；療程結束後，媽媽迫不及待給艾拉一個溫暖的擁抱。這更是母女倆的第一次接觸。


慶幸的是，如今已9個月大的艾拉生活一切正常，腦部斷層掃描也沒有出現異狀。對此，醫護人員表示，她的復原速度令人驚訝，現在是既活潑又好動，未來只需回診接受後續物理治療。
