為了供人觀賞，有許多動物從野外被關入牢籠，人們把牠們冠上了生態教育的光環，實際上卻為了吸引遊客賺進大把的鈔票，不過一旦動物園經營不善，關門倒閉之後，曾經是搖錢樹的這些動物，就成為燙手山芋。如果是比較稀有少見的，或許可以轉手賣給另一個動物園，如果賣不出去，好心一點的業者會通報縣市政府，將爛攤子交由政府處理。但是有許多的經營者，卻是狠心的一走了之，就把動物棄置在牢籠中讓牠們自生自滅...

　　清晨，高雄縣政府會同警方，以及屏科大野生動物救援隊的人員，前往高雄旗山的一座私人遊樂區，入口的售票亭早已破舊損毀，牆壁上還可以看到花旗動物樂園褪色的廣告。這個遊樂區雖已倒閉多年，但園區裡還留有許多動物，原本經營者僱請一位管理員來餵食照顧，如今在無力負擔，動物又賣不出去的情況下，只好把保育類動物辦理棄養，交由屏科大保育類動物收容中心來處理。

　　獸醫阿志，小心謹慎的開始進行麻醉工作，今天他面對的是一種陌生的動物"彪"，"彪"是獅子與老虎交配生下的後代，在野外並沒有這樣的動物，完全是人為造就的產物。這隻二十多歲的彪，可能是台灣目前唯一的一隻，被麻醉槍射中的牠，在小小的籠子裡走動掙扎，眼神露出強烈不安與憤怒，牠沒有選擇權，只能任人擺佈。就像牠莫名其妙的來到世間，來到動物園一樣，如今牠又莫名其妙的被送往新的住處。這一次野生動物救援隊帶走了一隻彪、二隻馬來熊、一隻熊狸，但是遊樂區裡還剩下許多非保育類的動物，奄奄一息的蟒蛇、脖子被鐵鏈鏈住的獼猴、看起來很餓的大老鼠、兔子等等....

但是這樣的例子不是第一次，也不是最悲慘的，去年屏科大的保育人員也曾經至彰化新百果山樂園，救援一隻被遺棄在園區的長臂猿，如果不是鄉公所人員發現餵食，可能無人知曉。三年前多次更名重整經營的大非洲野生動物園，突然宣布停止營業，園區內剩下的一些保育類動物，沒得吃沒得喝，甚至飼養的水池還長滿了蛆，最後也是縣政府出面處理，將動物分送其他動物園安置。而根據動物保育人士表示，曾經紅極一時的雲林天元莊遊樂區也是在倒閉之後，將老虎、花豹、熊等動物留置園區內，最後還發生動物餓死以及互咬的慘劇。

　　曾經牠們是賣點，是搖錢樹。當風光不再，牠們的下場又有誰來關心，如今遊樂區兼動物園的觀光時代慢慢褪去之後，台灣又興起一波動物表演與明星動物的熱潮，有些幫動物穿上人類的衣服，模擬人的動作，馬戲團式的表演，只為了博君一笑，人們的快樂卻是建立在動物的痛苦上，這是否公平呢?而更令人擔心的是，有許多小型動物園打著生態園區的名號，私自引進一些珍奇異獸來做展示，這種生態園區的飼養環境通常都非常的狹小惡劣，更別說什麼展示教育、生態解說，在商機的考量下，這些動物往往就這樣被犧牲掉了。

　　在媒體上不時聽到某某遊樂區或動物園，引進了新的動物或是用千萬打造動物的新家，但是卻很少人注意到，在不起眼角落，一些過氣或比較不吸引人的動物，只能使用一些狹小空間，如果能花大錢買進外來的新動物，為什麼不能讓一旁哀怨的動物，有更好更舒服的生活環境呢?我們把一些不屬於台灣的動物，塑造成明星物種，真正值得我們認識的本土動物，卻打入了冷宮，這樣的動物展示，究竟是教育還是商機?

　　其實這些來到台灣的動物，就像我們的客人，既是請來作客，就應該善待牠們，別讓牠們落難台灣客死他鄉，如果我們不能做個好主人，那麼就讓牠們在森林原野奔跑吧!!
