曾勇奪二○○八北京殘障奧運兩面銀牌的荷蘭自由車女將范德沃絲特（Monique van der Vorst），去年與另一位殘障自由車手在比賽中相撞之後，雙腳居然奇蹟似地恢復能力，如今她已進入荷蘭著名自由車隊訓練，志在參加二○一六年奧運自由車比賽。

英國《每日郵報》廿五日報導，范德沃絲特現年廿七歲，她自小愛玩網球及曲棍球，但在十三歲剛接觸自由車時，她接受很平常的腳踝手術，卻傷及神經，一條腿由髖部以下變成麻痺，從此只能騎殘障輪式自由車。

范德沃絲特並不氣餒，她用手推動殘障自由車，得過六次歐洲及三次世界比賽冠軍。禍不單行，二○○八年，范德沃絲特被汽車撞到，傷及脊椎骨，腰部以下完全失去知覺，但她毫不氣餒，同年稍後在北京殘奧自由車比賽獲得兩面銀牌。

二○一○年，范德沃絲特正為二○一二倫敦殘奧訓練衝刺，卻與另一位車手相撞，她身體發生抽搐，沒想到兩腳相繼恢復知覺，到年底已經能站起來走路，她今年三月還到羅馬參加短程馬拉松比賽。

范德沃絲特日前與荷蘭頂尖的「Rabobank」女性職業自由車隊簽約，志在參加二○一六年巴西里約熱內盧奧運自由車項目；在失去行走能力十三年後復原，她無法形容那種感覺。她說，能與他人併肩行走、直視別人的眼睛，真是太好了。
